Dark Souls R ｜ Overthrow “Gwin of Firewood King”

As with all RPG-type death games, if you spend a lot of time cheating on another game while you’re in the process, don’t you know what to do when you meet again? In particular, I personally feel that the dark soul game tends to be stronger as it gets closer to the end of the game.

In short, it’s good to restart Dark Souls for the first time in about half a year, but I don’t know how to reach the ending.

Final stage | How to get to the first fire pot

When you ring the bell in the castle immortal parish and the residence of Crag, you will see a fantasy character-like “Framt” that appears in the ritual site of the fire splicing. If you talk to him with the “King’s Soul“, he will take you to the altar of the fire.

The door is opened by dedicating four “King’s Souls” to the “King’s Vessel” on the altar of the fire.

First fire pot

I was interrupted when I lost to the Abyss Lord Manus. In other words, the four “King’s Souls” have been collected. It took more than an hour to defeat Manus, and finally I came to the “First Fire Pot”.

Five black knights are waiting on the way to the battle with Gwin. Here, even if you defeat it, if you rest on a bonfire, it will be regenerated again, so it is convenient to go around.

The Black Knight will drop various ores and Black Knight weapons, and if you play the second lap, you may want to try it.

It’s not necessary to explain to the players who have reached this place anymore, but it is basically a back stub that takes the back counterclockwise with the parry decided or locked on.

If you’re thinking of starting Dark Souls, it’s a good idea to move backwards counterclockwise in the locked-on state, see the Black Knight attack, and then hit.

Where to get the Black Knight Series of Armor

If you go down the gray sand, you will reach a place like the one in the image below. The place to play against Gwin is in the direction of the yellow arrow, but if you go to the right on the pillar that can be seen almost in the center, the “Black Knight Series” is falling.

When you go to get the “Black Knight Series”, the Black Knight seen on the yellow arrow line will attack you. It is recommended to defeat it first and then go to pick it up, but be careful because the scaffolding is narrow. Once the parry is decided, it will be relatively safe to defeat.

After crossing the narrow bridge, go down the stairs on your right and you will see a white fog with “Gwin, the King of Firewood”. There are two remaining black knights on this staircase.

If you go around, this is one set.

Finally, the “Firewood King’s Gwin” battle

At first glance, you can’t help but overwhelm the appearance of the Great Sword, which is wrapped in flames and shakes freely.

It seems to be the strongest king of soul, with a dive attack that approaches at once in the opening confirmation technique, a continuous slash (3-4 consecutive), a thrust that stretches more than expected, a surprising grab attack.

I don’t count how many times I lost, but the inaudible lines cling to my head as I leave. 😓

First of all, if you watch the video, you will understand how to get around. There is only one essential condition, and it is necessary to practice until you can decide the parry with high probability.

Even I, 54 years old, could defeat Parry with a squirrel technique pattern if I could get it.

How to defeat Gwin | Be aware of two things

Anyway, if you keep a distance, the unmanned Gwin is all-you-can-eat. If you are a skilled person, you will be able to stand up to Gwin’s attack, but once you break the rhythm, I was in a straight line until death, and I fought with close proximity to grasp my own pace.

The method I defeated is the following procedure.

① Decide the parry on the first or second shot of the dive attack or continuous slash

② After the parry, maintain the proximity state and decide the continuous parry

Anyway, it is a dive attack of the opening confirmation technique, and if the parry is decided, the flow will come to the player side at once. After that, the key is how long you can decide the parry in a row.

I will explain how to match Parry to the opening game, which is important for the first move. 😅

① After entering white smoke, lock on Gwin while moving forward with a dash

② Parry according to the landing of Gwin who jumped in

If you can decide this with a high probability, your muffled mood will be rewarded at once.

Tips for deciding “parity” from the second time onward and timing of recovery.

Even if you can’t decide on “Parry” at the opening, it’s important after you decide on the first “Parry”. If you explain the detailed procedure again, it will be as follows.

① The first “Parry” is decided

② Gwin approaches and gives a fatal

③ Gwin is locked on while maintaining the approaching state

④ “Parry” is decided according to the first swing of Gwin who stood up

⑤ After that, ② to ④ repeat

In short, step ④ is important.　 If you can’t decide here with high probability, the method I’m talking about this time won’t work.

Tips for deciding “Parry” from the second time onwards

I think there are two patterns as a method to stably determine the “parry” in step ④.

・ First swing Gwin swings up the sword and decides “Parry” according to the moment when he swings it down.

・ Guard the first swing and decide “Parry” according to the moment when the first swing is shaken off.

It may be difficult to understand, but the first swing of Gwin is that the sword moves with the rhythm of Su-Tan. The timing of the parry is the tongue after the su. This is the former and the key to deciding “Parry”.

On the other hand, the latter method is a method of deciding “Parry” aiming at Gwin’s second swing. Gwin’s second swing is early, so even if you try to decide “Parry” after seeing the second swing, it is often not in time. It seemed to be stable to aim at the place where the first swing was shaken off.

Since I am aiming from the first swing, I felt that it would be easier to match the second swing if I aimed again at the moment when the first swing failed. Because it was a bad shit, I was able to achieve it as a result of finishing only the physical strength and armor with a good feeling … 😅

Timing of recovery

The timing of recovery is between ③ and ④. Immediately after giving a fatal effect, lock on and hit the recovery button repeatedly, and when the recovery action is seen, it feels like hitting “Parry” repeatedly, just in time. Of course, it will not be stable until you get used to it, so I think it is ant to guard the first swing when recovering.

Precautions when separated

If you fail in the opening final move “Parry”, you will often have to keep a distance.

In that case, give priority to calming down and getting used to Gwin’s movements. Because this happened, I had no choice but to ask for the next parry timing.

Gwin thinks there are few single-shot attacks, so it’s almost no mistake. In other words, when evading, always assume that the attack will be connected to 3 to 4 stations, and concentrate on the next evasion.

Be careful of grabbing attacks

Since I tend to be conscious of continuous moves, I often experience sudden grab attacks. When Gwin raises his left hand as if twisting his body, it is a sign that a grab attack will come. Let’s hurry and take a distance.

Attitude at the time of consecutive defeats

Not limited to the game against Gwin, if you continue to lose in a row, you will not know what to do. In FromSoftware games, there is always an attack turn on the player side. It is also certain that it often takes time to grasp the movement of the enemy and understand the attack turn.

From here on, it’s just my personal opinion.

In this Gwin battle, I think that there are some people who are suitable for seeing and responding to the attack turn, and some who are not. If you are suitable, you can beat it within 20 consecutive losses at most.

I wasn’t the right person, and the conclusion I came up with after thinking about what to do was “Parry”. “Parry” is the only way to create an attack turn as long as you decide, unless it is an invalid technique.

Digression

From Software’s new work “Elden Ring”, which is about to be released, of course I have a reservation.

It seems that some of the people who played the test play said, “I felt that the importance of parry has diminished in this work.”

In the trend from the past work, when making a game of FromSoftware, the attack turn on the player side was always prepared, and there was also a parry that triggered the attack turn that you could make yourself.

In fact, I don’t know until I play it, and I believe that there is always an answer to win, so I’m looking forward to it. (Currently January 31, 2022)
